Interchangeable Parts in St. Pete Beach, FL
Previous cast(s):
I've been on Interchangeable Parts solidly since I started in 1996, but I was also a regular on the Orlando cast Rich Weirdoes for about a year and a half (about mid 2003 - January 2005) as a Transylvanian and sometimes Eddie. I also guest performed many times in 1996 or 1997 for the now-disbanded Tampa cast "Near Death Experience," later changed to "Denton High." I performed regularly for a short-lived St. Pete cast called "Circus of the Night" in 1998. I was a throw-in for the Tampa cast Tampa Plain Dealers on their very first show in 2005. I was also on the Tampa annual cast "Larger Than Life" every Halloween from 1997-2004 as lead Magenta every year but the first one.
Date I started performing in Rocky Horror:
I know it was early June of 1996, so probably 6/8/96. I was thrown in for Magenta that night and in the next auditions, I became the new lead Magenta! I've since played every role, but as for lead roles, I've alternated between Magenta and Frank ever since 1996.
Why I love this part:
Magenta is the first character I loved in Rocky! She's sexy, but creepy and definitely her own person.
What made me want to perform in this show?
I had never seen anything like this in my life. I had never seen a man dressed up and performing like Frank and the show grabbed me, instantly. I had always been too scared to be serious about acting, but I knew I could mimic this movie and I immediately got the movie and started practicing the part. I just HAD to be part of the show.
Advice I'd give to someone just starting out:
Go buy the movie. Go put together a costume even if the part you want to play is taken. You cannot wait around to be invited to perform. You have to be ready and let the cast know what you want to do and then you should do what it takes to show that you'd be an excellent cast member by helping to clean up or help with costumes, etc. More than anything, be reliable. Eventually, someone won't be able to make it and they'll need someone to perform; sometimes at a moment's notice and then you're in.
Other:
Picture 2 is of me just before the Tampa Theatre show 10/31/03. Picture 3 is of me in 02/04. Picture 4 is from 1999 or so. Picture 5 is of me at the Orlando convention in 10/01. I had to do a 5 minute quick-change in order to be in the costume challenge (hence no makeup). Anyway, it's a good picture of my new costume (Picture by Shawn McHorse). Picture 6 is from 1998 during a Tampa Theatre rehearsal.
